Chartres and Versailles
The next two days after the Tour left Paris, I decided to check out the French countryside, absolutely beautiful, a bit warm though.
Very tranquil, this town of Chartres.  Somewhere around here they make the drink of the same name, if anyone wants to try, I have some at home.
Malcolm Miller here is a Brit who is the resident of Chartres for 44 years.  The dude knows everything and he has a great gig. He writes books about the place and gives lectures around the world.
Holy Backyard! Now I see where Henry VIII spent all of his money, this is his fricken backyard complete with a man-made canal for Sunday boating.  They say he spent 1/2 a years income of the country of France (then the richest in the world) building this thing.  Makes my backyard project pale in comparison
So I'm in this big Castle and I'm thinking you've seen one castle you've seen them all, boy was I wrong...........
Henry VIII's wife, the famous Mary Antoinette had her own hamlet in the backyard to stay in while her husband played up at the castle.  She lived here so she could say she was "downsizing" and not further infuriate the peasants of France.  If this is downsizing....
When you have a yard this big, you need some serious power tools
